El Paso County Projects
The surveys we perform in El Paso County, Texas, are for another surveyor that is
performing developmental surveying for a land development company. The surveys
we perform are on unpatented land that is still in the Texas Public School Land Fund.
Therefore, a Licensed State Land Surveyor is required to prepare the field notes that
will be filed in those areas.
This is the Texas & Pacific Railway Company 80 Mile Reservation that stretches from
Pecos River to the Rio Grande and from the New Mexico State line south 80 miles. It
was originally surveyed by Jacob Kuechler in the late 1800s. In 1883, the GLO
appointed Paul McCombs to retrace Kuechler's control. McCombs did this with the
help of Kuechler and set iron pipes at many of these points, some of which can be
located today.
My master's thesis focused on the surveying issues in the eastern part of El Paso
County. You can follow this link to read it.
